Full/half Day Sewing Workshops in Exmouth – Autumn 2023 onwards
Have you ever wanted to learn how to make a cushion, a roman blind or curtains? Do you have an unused sewing machine at home? Now is the time to learn some new skills that you will have for life. At Bay Tree I run full/half day sewing workshops where you can learn how to make blinds, curtains, cushions, pelmets, tie backs and other home accessories to a professional standard. I provide a step by step approach including instructions and materials and at the end of the course you will leave with a sample (made by you) and full instructions. You can then make your own soft furnishings to a professional standard for yourself, family and friends. The cost of the classes includes the use of a sewing machine (you may prefer to bring your own), equipment, materials, lunch/snack and refreshments.
Simple Zipped Cushion
On this workshop you will learn how to make a simple zipped cushion. Basic sewing machine knowledge and experience is necessary.
You will learn a selection of skills including measuring, cutting and joining fabrics, inserting a zip using a zip foot and finishing off your cushion.
All fabrics and materials plus the use of a sewing machine are included, along with tuition and full instructions.
Refreshments and cake/biscuits is provided as well.

Piped Cushion with Zip Workshop
On this workshop you will learn how to make a piped cushion with zip. Basic sewing machine knowledge and experience is necessary.
You will learn a selection of skills including measuring, cutting and joining fabrics, cutting on the bias to make the piping, adding the piping to your cushion, inserting a zip using a zip foot and finishing off your cushion.
All fabrics and materials plus the use of a sewing machine are included, along with tuition and full instructions.
Refreshments and cake/biscuits is provided as well.

Roman Blind Workshop
On this workshop you will learn how to make a lined roman blind. Basic sewing machine knowledge and experience is necessary.
You will learn how to measure windows for roman blinds including calculating fabric quantities, understanding pattern repeats, joining fabrics, pattern matching, making up roman blinds with no visible stitches showing on the front with either a cascade or standard finish. We will discuss tracks, linings, interlinings, trimmings and how to hang your roman blind.
All fabrics and materials plus the use of a sewing machine are included, along with tuition and full instructions.
Refreshments and cake/biscuits is provided as well.

Curtain Workshop – Part 1
On this workshop you will learn how to make a lined curtain.
We will discuss poles/tracks, how to measure, calculate fabric quantities for plain and patterned fabric, understanding and using pattern repeats.
Prepare and cut lining, joining fabric together, inserting mitred corners, hems and heading tape to complete a pencil pleat lined curtain sample.
You will need to have basic sewing machine skills and be competent in straight stitch machine sewing.
All fabrics and materials plus the use of a sewing machine are included, along with tuition and full instructions.
Refreshments including lunch cake/biscuits is provided as well.

Curtain Workshop – Part 2
This workshop follows on from Curtain Workshop Part 1 which you should complete first.
On this workshop you will learn how to make a bespoke hand made interlined double/triple or goblet pleat curtain sample.
We will discuss how to dress curtains.
You will need to have basic sewing machine skills and be competent in straight stitch machine sewing.
All fabrics and materials plus the use of a sewing machine are included, along with tuition and full instructions.
Refreshments including lunch cake/biscuits is provided as well.
